As a child, living in regional Australia, dust storms, bush fires, floods, drought and lack of rain dominated life on the farm. Survival depended on anticipating and interpreting these occurrences by examining cloud shapes in the sky. These early childhood sensory experiences have been re-interpreted in colour shape and form. The power of natural energies combined with current environmental and political concerns, inform the structure, qualities and mood of this work." – JUDE HOTCHKISS   'Cloud Warning Three'138 x 122cm acrylic and aerosol on canvas $ 2,100.00

Section of J VALENZUELA DIDI'S painting 'Splitting at the Seams' as part of his current solo exhibition.   "I have a folder that I fill with interesting pictures of everyday moments. As I’ve returned to this file over the years, I’ve found that the images have evolved over time. I have altered and displaced the figures in these pictures to echo a transformation. An approach that gives rise to a dreamlike atmosphere where reality, memory and illusion collide." – J Didi

In our Q&A with J VALENZUELA DIDI we found out more about J's current body of work and his practice going forward.   Q. How do you feel your practice has changed over time? A. I try to constantly evolve in my practice and focus on ideas that interest me at any point in time. Over the years this has led me to return to different themes while approaching these from a new perspective. I sort of see it as an ever-expanding spiral that started at the central point of wanting to create art and has continued to grow over time.   Artwork. We are delving into the studio and practice of artist Joie Villeneuve! You can also spot Joie's studio companions amongst her works in progress.   Joie was born in Minnesota, USA and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design. After spending a decade in New Mexico, being swooned by the landscape and the light, she immigrated to Perth, Western Australia in 2008 and now considers this home. Joie has been a professional artist for over 30 years and exhibits locally and internationally, her work emerges from a heavily textured, mixed-media surface and transports one along a poetic wave.   "I have a studio in Wembley (Perth) and also one in Mandurah, just an hour south, and I split my time between the two. The Mandurah studio is right across from the ocean and a great deal of my inspiration comes from spending time here near the water" – Joie Villeneuve #puppers  #australiangallery  #abstractart  #oceanpainting

Getting to know more about the practice and works of J VALENZUELA DIDI in celebration of his Solo Exhibition 'The Quiet List' on now.  Q. What inspires or drives you to create art? A.I have this internal impulse to create, that has been with me since I was a child. I’m not entirely sure what drives it. I’m quite reserved in social situations, so maybe it’s my subconscious way of emotionally communicating. Artwork. 'Embered Habitation' 71 x 36 x 18cm Jarrah timber $ 2,600.00 by SAM HOPKINS. We did a Q & A with Sam in anticipation of his 'Selected Works' exhibition 24 Sept – 12 Oct.   Q. Is there a particular medium or style of work you enjoy creating the most? A. I think of all the mediums I use, they all have certain elements I love about them and ones I dislike about them. I enjoy bringing mediums together and using them in ways they wouldn’t traditionally be used. The style of work I tend to enjoy the most are the more organic ones, carving back and building up, that develop as you progress, responding to the material and overall form.
