Captured Moments
Customarily my paintings encapsulate an observers captivated gaze over a subject. My viewpoint on someone captured living in a moment.
Born in Sydney, Danielle McManus intertwines experience from everyday life with her Maltese heritage to produce beautifully detailed artworks that can be read as both whimsical and simultaneously shrouded in depth and innuendo.
Whether fictional or based on real-life family events, Danielle’s love of storytelling is evident in her sumptuous renderings, providing the viewer with often thought provoking subjects, her figures and detailed flora and fauna frequently set against a bucolic backdrop infused with her European heritage and her passion for her country of birth.
Danielle’s works consist of mixed media incorporating charcoal, pastels, oils, acrylics and washi papers. The stories that unfold within her works are rendered in a clean, rich colour palette with native flowers and small animals often camouflaged waiting to be discovered.
Relying on the beauty of the landscape as a constant backdrop, my inspiration at present is drawn from everyday life. My three children provide me with a constant stream of ideas and that, along with the changing seasons of the Hunter Valley and the birds and fauna here, supply more than enough material!
I like to evoke feelings in the viewer, hoping they can in fact relate to the work and imagine a story of their own. Frequently there is no predetermined ideas as such, the story evolves and the canvas takes on a personality of its own.
