Sydney based, Lauri Smith, often draws expressiveness from the realms of hyperrealism, magic realism, and surrealism, creating captivating pieces that have the capacity to engage and transport the viewer. Lauri is a multi-award-winning artist whose works have been showcased in solo and group exhibitions, as well as major art prizes and awards. Lauri is developing a global representation, with her pieces featuring in galleries throughout Australia, and in Spain, London, New York, and Japan.
Lauri’s fascination with Jim Henson’s iconic creature creations in ‘The Labyrinth’ and ‘The Dark Crystal’ ignited her passion for art and storytelling leading her to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts, refining her skills and nurturing her artistic voice. A natural innovator, Lauri furthered her expertise with a Diploma in Special Effects Makeup and prop making, paving the way for a successful career in TV, film, and fashion. The amalgamation of these diverse experiences further inspires her unique practice, in particular, her three-dimensional work, blurring the lines between fantasy and reality.
