Q & A – Talking with artist J VALENZUELA DIDI about his works, practice and new Solo Exhibition 'The Quiet Life' 24 Sept – 12 Oct.   Q. Can you tell us what this new body of work is about and how it began? A. Most of the concepts for these paintings came about long ago. Over the years I’ve been building up a collection of images of figures that I have found interesting. I was revisiting these images around the time I was planning this exhibition and I found they had taken on a new life and meaning for me. That drew me to expand on that idea by displacing the figures in time and space into prevailing, yet ambiguous narratives.

“I have a folder that I fill with interesting pictures of everyday moments. In this collection I have family photos, posed shots, magazine clippings, sketches and historical documents. As I’ve returned to this file over the years, I’ve found that the images have evolved over time. Not from a physical change, but through a shift in meaning forged by my own memory and experience. In my new works I have altered and displaced the figures in these pictures to echo this transformation. An approach that gives rise to a dreamlike atmosphere where reality, memory and illusion collide.” – J Valenzuela Didi Section of J VALENZUELA DIDI'S new work 'Five Sisters of the Maritime' 152 x 91cm acrylic on canvas $ 4,950.00 part of J's solo exhibition 'The Quiet Life' #jvalenzueladidi  #australiangallery

'Voyager' new painting by REBECCA PIERCE for her current solo exhibition 'Somersaults and Cartwheels'. “The period creating this exhibition has been tumultuous. For so many, the past year has been jarring, unsettling and has dislodged stable bases that may have been taken for granted. I have found refuge in colour and light and simple moments of happiness that have become treasures. Utilising texture in many forms I am attempting to capture the essence of these small perfect moments, that are uplifting and buoyant and like a salve for the unknown and uncertainty that pervades.” – REBECCAcontemporaryart 'Voyager' – 101 x 101cm acrylic and resin on canvas on board $ 3,400.00

ZOM OSBORNE paintings on display in the gallery   "The majority of these paintings are from a series called ‘A New World’ that I finished a few months before the pandemic began. They are set in a Post-Apocalyptic world and the message is meant to be mostly comforting. They contain North American and Australian animals and settings – as both countries are my home. They wear uniforms from a time when Europeans invaded the indigenous lands and precipitated vast changes to country and culture. The guardian figures wear the uniforms of the colonist invaders as a metaphor for transformation of a violent and materialistic culture. They have taken the power and are creating a new world” – Zom Osborne For any questions, enquiries or to view a catalogue of Zom's works please contact us or see our website !!!
