'Coalescence' sculpture on display at the 2021 Sculptures by the Sea Cottesloe by SAM HOPKINS. We recently did a Q&A to learn Sam, his works, practice and studio environment.   Q. What is your studio like, can you describe it for us? A. I have a small studio at home on what you’d consider a large block for an inner-city property with a large Jacaranda tree beside it. The studio is an old timber-framed asbestos line shed with two big timber barn style doors at the front, a real classic with a lean-to on the side that always seems to be overflowing with materials. It’s a compact space with workbenches and shelving on either side and some space in the middle to work on my projects, far from fancy but perfect for creating my smaller works. For my large scale works, I then lease a workshop of another artist that I also work with. Located in the Perth foothills, it’s surrounded by trees and nature, with a large 5m high space in the front equipped with a gantry crane for those larger than life works. Down the back is a single-story workspace lined with benches and machinery for all the assembly. Its an amazing place to be able to create. 'Coalescence' 260 x 112 x 94cm Polished Stainless steel, Corten steel available now please contact the gallery for more images and information.

Getting to know more about SAM HOPKINS whose 'Selected Works' Exhibition is on now! Q. Do you listen to music while you create works, and if so what are you listening to at the moment? A. I don't think I’d be able to do my work without listening to music or podcasts! As I can do many hours in the workshop a week, I tend to get sick of my music, so I usually just have it on “discovery weekly” on Spotify and find new artists. However, I’ve been listening to Tesky Brothers a lot on my recent project.

In our Q&A with J VALENZUELA DIDI we found out more about J's current body of work and his practice going forward.   Q. How do you feel your practice has changed over time? A. I try to constantly evolve in my practice and focus on ideas that interest me at any point in time. Over the years this has led me to return to different themes while approaching these from a new perspective. I sort of see it as an ever-expanding spiral that started at the central point of wanting to create art and has continued to grow over time.   Artwork. We are delving into the studio and practice of artist Joie Villeneuve! You can also spot Joie's studio companions amongst her works in progress.   Joie was born in Minnesota, USA and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design. After spending a decade in New Mexico, being swooned by the landscape and the light, she immigrated to Perth, Western Australia in 2008 and now considers this home. Joie has been a professional artist for over 30 years and exhibits locally and internationally, her work emerges from a heavily textured, mixed-media surface and transports one along a poetic wave.   "I have a studio in Wembley (Perth) and also one in Mandurah, just an hour south, and I split my time between the two. The Mandurah studio is right across from the ocean and a great deal of my inspiration comes from spending time here near the water" – Joie Villeneuve #puppers  #australiangallery  #abstractart  #oceanpainting

Getting to know more about the practice and works of J VALENZUELA DIDI in celebration of his Solo Exhibition 'The Quiet List' on now.  Q. What inspires or drives you to create art? A.I have this internal impulse to create, that has been with me since I was a child. I’m not entirely sure what drives it. I’m quite reserved in social situations, so maybe it’s my subconscious way of emotionally communicating. Artwork.
