Phil Hayes is an Australian artist who has made a lasting impact on the national and international art scene since the early 1980s. With a unique blend of modernist Pop art, his creations draw inspiration from the vibrant tapestry of popular and commercial culture found in both Western and Asian societies. Over the course of 15 years, Phil’s artistic journey has been closely intertwined with the iconic symbol of the ‘Dog,’ which initially emerged as a series of poignant social commentaries on Australian suburbia in the 1980s. Today, the ‘Dog’ has become a distinctive hallmark of Phil’s artistry, instantly recognizable and imbued with his signature style. His work has garnered international recognition, being showcased in a multitude of solo and group exhibitions spanning the globe.
Beyond his artistic pursuits, Phil has dedicated the past 18 years to making waves in the surf industry. As an esteemed Artist and Designer for two of the world’s largest surf companies, Rip Curl and Quiksilver, he has consistently pushed the boundaries of creativity. Being a surfer himself, the influence of the ocean and surf culture seeps into his work, often transforming the surfboard into a vibrant canvas for his artistic expressions.
With an impressive career spanning decades, Phil Hayes continues to captivate audiences with his bold and dynamic creations. His art not only showcases his profound understanding of modernism and Pop art but also celebrates the rich tapestry of cultural influences that shape our world. Phil’s distinctive fusion of diverse artistic styles, coupled with his unyielding passion for surf culture, establishes him as a true visionary in the realm of contemporary art.
