Tim Fry

Tim is a contemporary artist working across public art, teaching, and exhibition practice of sculptural ceramics and drawing. Tim has exhibited consistently over the past 15 years in both solo and group exhibitions with artist run spaces, regional and commercial galleries.

Tims artistic output infuses pop art inspired imagery with personal narratives, text and lyrics. His work deals with identity through place and local politics, climate change, mental health, parenthood and nostalgia. Slab built ceramic sculpture and mixed media drawing form the artist’s main repertoire with a strong emphasis on text, accessible imagery, line and bold colour. ‘Celebrate and question’ form the artist’s ethos, he seeks to inspire hope and gratitude while provoking dialogue and change.

Artist Statement

Music Saves pays homage to the vital role of music in day-to-day life. Music Saves literally describes the power of music and art to heal our minds and positively contribute to mental health in a proactive way. The stories and human experiences communicated through music foster empathy and understanding and help us to feel connected to greater humanity through our common lived experiences. This is so important at a time when people feel isolated and divided by politics and conflict. The subject of the cassette tape is both everyday for the right age group and yet nostalgic for a simpler time. This nostalgia is used as a device to connect with audiences and invites people to reflect on memories of cassette tapes and decades gone by. Personally, nostalgia is a coping strategy to not only look fondly at the past but to project an optimism forward into the future and thereby foster hope for what lays ahead.

traffic jam galleries is elated to announce the return of our exhibition series Untitled. Opening on May 2nd, the exhibition series aims to exhibit and focus on artists foreign to the gallery space that reflect a spectrum of experience, subject matter and practice, and would predominately be considered emerging. Through varied and engaging work, Untitled. is a transformation of the norm into a reflection of what is to come. Each artist has chosen to exhibit a small selection of works that reflect the current stage in their practice and thoughts on topics and issues important to them. The aim of this medley of physical and conceptual forms is to promote a culture of diversity and show that mixed bodies of seemingly disconnected ideas have the ability to strengthen and support each other.
