“Growing up on the land, it is through personal and indigenous experience that I have come to learn that contained within the landscape is a symbolic language. Natural signs and symbols inform the coming weather events, changing of seasons and migration. The black cockatoo has a prophetic space in relationship to the weather, the direction they fly signifies rain approaching in coming days. The rectangular head created in this artwork is symbolic of modernity, technology and communication. Indigenous culture recognised the interconnectedness of everything and now western culture has built a business on the interconnectedness of everything. It is through a new lens, a new way of seeing that we may come to understand ancient ways and the prophetic nature of signs and symbols.”- Dean Reilly
