Mark O’Ryan is a Sydney based artist, a graduate from Sydney College of the arts and the Australian Film TV and Radio School. In 2009 he completed a masters from COFA. Mark works with numerous materials but often focusses on natural woods. His work has appeared in many exhibitions and publications both in Australia and overseas.
“My work prompts the viewer to consider the origins of the materials we use to assemble our constructed world.
The material is given a new organic and poetic nature that recalls the materials’ origins and examines the aesthetics of balancing nature with human intervention.
In particular, the aesthetics of balancing the Australian landscape with the intervention of fire.
The forms allude to Australia’s blackened landscape. They are an exploration of renewal, fertility and regeneration and question our reluctance to see its beauty.” – Mark O’Ryan
