Australian artist, Nicole Southworth grew up in Sydney on the beaches and waterways of the Sutherland Shire and Sydney and developed a love of visual art as a young child.
Since 1992, at the age of 19, Nicole has exhibited in prominent Sydney galleries. Nicole held her first solo exhibition at the age of 21 in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, and has had many sell-out solo exhibitions since, including one in Hazelhurst cottage. Her works are held in private and corporate collections in Australia and internationally.
Artist Statement
“I am predominantly a landscape oil painter, enjoying bush and coastal scenes. My landscapes are influenced by many past and present Australian landscape artists, as well as the impressionist and post-impressionist movements. I am concerned with the use of colour, light and movement in our unique Australian landscape – often the natural landscape but just as often with glimpses of the presence of urbanisation within the landscape. I feel my work falls within the realm of representation, gestural mark making and colourist painting. I am constantly inspired by this great city, and am always searching for inspiration in the little inlets, bays and on the headlands which are in abundance in Sydney. Such a colourful and fascinating city to attempt to interpret on canvas.” – Nicole Southworth
