Leonie McIntosh

Leonie McIntosh lives and creates her art on the beautiful coast of Northern NSW, surrounded by beaches on one side and rolling hills on the other. After doing a short course in oils as a teenager, Leonie was hooked and has painted on and off over the last 25 years. Between raising a family and becoming a scientist she has more recently dedicated most of her time to the practice of painting.

Leonie’s style is realistic and more recently makes a lean towards pop art, which has become her staple while keeping the realistic style. Her pieces often have a retro vibe and she aims to bring a feeling of nostalgia and happy childhood memories using foods and objects from the close and distant past, often with characters and a quirky story attached.

Leonie has been a finalist in multiple art prizes including two years at the Lethbridge, National Emerging Art Prize, and Byron Arts Magazine (BAM). Leonie was featured in the 2022 Affordable Art Fair, with a sold-out exhibition.

Artist Statement

“I have created these works to allow the viewer to reflect on their own personal connection to the subject. I love when you ask someone their favourite treat from childhood and the conversation leads to other people reminiscing about theirs, usually evoking a feeling of fondness, and occasionally disgust. With the bold colours, lettering and eye-catching marketing techniques used in packaging, I find a fountain of memories and inspiration. By employing little characters at times, it helps me to tell a story and create interest by making small objects the centre of attention”. – Leonie McIntosh

Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong 2023
