Kasia Fabijanska
Kasia Fabijańska works predominantly in intaglio printmaking and drawing, focusing on the various elements that relate humanity to nature whether they be political, personal or cultural. Fabijańska was born in Poland and lived for a short time in Germany before arriving in Australia in 1986 with her family. Being close to nature, whether hiking or snowboarding, has been an integral part of her creative work.
Artist Statement
The selection of works represents three prints from the Ecoruminating series. The Spire, Strangler Fig and Birrarung Rock. This body of work was created as a rumination or deliberation over the status quo of ecology, how it reflects the human psyche and what needs to shift in the collective culture for a move towards a sustainable future.
The three mountain scapes are from a current body of work and anchor the subject firmly in nature. The drawing process is akin to a type of endurance and meditation, focusing on one line after another, revealing the slow transformation.
