Artist Statement
This body of work ‘Citrus and Light’ continues my exploration of home and daily life, of objects often seen as mundane or banal finding their moment and connecting with notions of beauty, memory and personal history. Objects collected, found, given or foraged, used and displayed on a daily basis in our homes. Works come about organically, reflecting moments and vignettes within the home.
Citrus always features heavily in my works, used almost every day and often foraged from my Mother’s trees. A recent trip away has seen the inclusion of shells into my work as they sat on sideboards and shelves on our return, becoming part of our daily life.
The use of strong, vibrant colour and a limited composition showcases these somewhat ‘ordinary’ objects and celebrates their place in daily life. Shadows are used to connect with ideas of time and place.
