Based in Byron Bay’s Hinterland in New South Wales Leah Anketell is renowned for harnessing a vast array of contrasting medium in the creation of her highly detailed striking works. Leah not only captures a true representation of her subject but often its quirky and cheeky nature. As well as studying the arts Leah’s time spent working on film sets as a ‘scenic artist’ broadened her perspective and ultimately provided the vehicle to engage in the fine arts full time. Leah, a practising artist for over 18 years consistently exhibits throughout Australia.
“In my current series I continue to explore and look deeper into my home environment which surrounds the Byron Bay hinterland. This has led me to where I now find myself, focused on the relationship between Native Australian wildlife, our natural environment and at times the human influences over it. My own personal beliefs for a restored earth reflect what some call ‘a hopeful brightness’ in the work. By slowing down our lifestyles and immersing ourselves into the creation that surrounds us we are able to eliminate stress, depression, anxiety. Possibly finding purpose and the beginning of spirituality, leading us closer to the chance of finding a relationship with the original creator of all things” – Leah Anketell
